Flat Walk
If you want to Walk for the Island’s Hospice but don’t fancy walking across the hills, then the new Flat Walk The Wight is for you. It is Sunday 18th May, 2008 - the same day as Walk the Wight
The Flat Walk the Wight is 8 miles mainly along cycle tracks (which used to be the old railway line). It starts at Sandown High School and finishes at Thompsons Shide Trees outside Newport. The Walk will be marshalled, with a check point at Merstone after 5 miles, which will have water, toilets and toilets for the disabled. Shuttle buses, courtesy of Southern Vectis, will bring finishers back to the start.
For people who want to walk shorter distances there are access points at Lower Knighton, Horringford and Blackwater. Gates will be open along the cycle track, so it will be suitable for baby buggies and rugged wheelchairs. Please be aware that it is a grave surface and not paved flat.
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
The start is 9.30 - 10.30am at Sandown High School.
Tea and refreshments will be available at Horringford Farm Shop and Merstone.
The last finish will be 4pm, after which buses and marshalls cannot be guarranteed.
GETTING TO THE START. Southern Vectis are offering free travel on any scheduled Southern Vectis bus during 18th May 2008 to registered walkers who show their Walk The Wight number. So you can use the buses to get to the start and home again afterwards.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT OTHER PEOPLE MAY BE USING THE CYCLE TRACKS ON THE DAY, SUCH AS CYCLISTS AND HORSE RIDERS, SO STAY TO THE LEFT OF THE PATH.
