FREE BUS TRAVEL FOR WALK THE WIGHT ALL DAY

Walk The Wighters can travel FREE on any Southern Vectis bus during 18th May 2008 just by showing their Walker’s number. Southern Vectis have very kindly offered this extra service, in addition to the usual shuttle buses to the Bembridge Start and back from the Needles Park to Carisbrooke and Newport. This means that walkers can use any scheduled bus on the day to get to their chosen start or back home.

Thank you to the thousands of you who walked on Sunday in the wind and rain we are so proud of you.

877 walkers registered on the day and we had 4845 already signed up before the day so we must of had more than last year unfortunatly its hard to tell as we have some very soggy check point numbers handed in.

The first runner, Will Ambrosini, came in at just before 11 am, well done you looked as if you had just been on a stroll!!! he was shortly followed by thr first lady wearing boots, well done to both of you but dont get worried by this the rest of you, walking is fine by us, you all deserved your medals

We had 2 stilt walkers complete the walk in 8 hours 40 mins and Matt got as far as Mottistone before his rubber wore out on the bottom of his stilts, he walked the rest of the way. We are asking the guinness Book of Records to confirm they have created a record.

We had the youngest walker at 18 months walk the 4 miles from Freshwater, amazing

The chicken walked the whole way and the Morris Dancers danced the whole way.

We had 1329 children from 51 schools signed up for the schools walk the Wight

The children that walked on the day should wear their medals with pride you deserved them.

To all our sponsors, supporters and helpers a massive thank you from everyone at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice it meant a lot to us.
