I’m really looking forward to going on my first Walk the Wight, after such a wonderful walking holiday in the IoW last year. See you there!

the registration form will not work.
help me please!

can you pay on the day of walk the wight 2007

@ Luke
- Please try to download the form again, it should be working fine.

@Rudi Etches
- Yes you can register on the day, but there is a £10 fee.

First time for me, looking forward to walk the wight, lived on the island for 24 years thought it was time I did the walk, well half anyway

Dear Sirs
I did not receive any mailing at home this year, about the Walk. Do you not send out any more?
I am a bit upset because I have done the walk from Carisbrooke to Alum Bay every year.c

EMH Fundraising
We are sorry you did not receive your application form for this years walk. We sent out 4000 in January this year of walkers who walked in the past 2 years. Forms were available to downlaod on this site in January and in all our shops, Moreys, Hospice and fundraising Office. You will be able to register on the day for £10 per person. Thank you for walking

£10.00 per person I think is far too excessive. There does not seem to be a family, senior citizen, or a student discount, and for a family of 5 wishing to complete the Carisbrooke to Alum Bay, £50.00 I think is disgusting. For those that are unaware in 2006 registration cost was only £5.00 why the increase?

EMH Fundraising
This is a sponsored walk to raise money for our patient care it costs the Hospice £10 per person to provide all the facilities such as traffic lights, buses, paperwork, medals, toilets, food, insurance etc to enable people to take part in the walk. Before the 27th April it was free to register, of which 4700 have already done so, we do ask people to get sponsors to cover our costs and contribute towards the £1.5 million we need to raise each year. By registering on the day we realise that people are unable to collect sponsorship that is why we ask for the suggested minimum donation of £10.
We look forward to seeing you on the day and wish you well with your walk.

my son and his friend were looking forward to doing the walk this year but when they found out that there was a fee of £10 on the day they are now disappointed as they dont have this sort of money i can understand that this is a fund raising event but i feel that if you kept the £5 fee on the day you would get more walkers

EMH FUNDRAISING
I we have said before in previous comment it costs the Hospice approx £10 per walker to put the walk on. We are very grateful to all those who walked and raised sponsorship for us and to those who paid the £10 on the day.

how can ‘adelaide cooper’ say that £50 is disgusting. its for charity!! how stupid and tight fisted can you get, i will be walking and looking forward to raise more money for the hospice.

Only big problem was lack of toilet facilities again, mottistone was terrible, very clean…cant fault that, but not enough, seemed to spend more time queuing (in torrential rain) than walking. Please have at least 10 portaloos at Mottistone next year.

Also, took my greyhound for his 1st (half) walk the wight, but he didnt get a medal, think he deserved it more than me!!!

Thanks
Sandra & Loner
See you next year (hopefully)

EMH FUNDRAISING
We had 34 toilets in total 14 more than last year we will try and put more at Mottistone but it does lack space!
Sorry we could only give medals to registered walkers and the dogs registered for dogs walk the Wight which Loner can still register for if you would like to take part. Look at website for details www.iwhospice.org.uk. Thank you for walking.

My son and I did the walk from Bembridge to Alum bay yesterday (13th May). The organisation throughout was excellent. Despite the atrocious weather all the marshalls & helpers were very cheerful and kept smiling. Well done to everyone.

Hi Frank it was great to see you on Sunday wearing Number 1 with pride. We are so grateful to you and Bill for your fantastic idea to start this walk.
thank you from all of us at the Hospice

I hope you will move the walk back to june next year

EMH Fundraising
Sorry the walk has always been in May apart from when we had foot & mouth then we moved it to September. It will be 18th May 2008

Good to see more marshalls and extra toilets

Once again badly organised at Carisbrooke - thought you’d have learnt from the previous year - even lovely ladies on checkpoint agreed. You need to take more care of those who have walked from Bembridge doing full walk - maybe putting desk in that layby opposite the road we came out of by Carisbrooke. We wanted times put on our tickets but not signposted enough - people were all lost whether they were starting at Carisbrooke or like me come from Bembridge.

How about having the checkout desk before the congratulations man at Alum Bay.

Earlier buses would have been nice too - so cold and wet at 1.15pm had to get someone to come and pick me up.

Thank you for comments which we will put to the committee for consideration next year

I just like to agree with frank, all the marshalls were brilliant. This was the first time but by no means the last time i have done the walk.
hopefully a little bit drier next time.

Can we just say very well done to everyone who took part this year. A special well done to Tracy Price who managed to not only beat her boss to the finish line, but also managed to raise approximately £250 for the Hospice! Congratulations also go to her daughter Sarah! Well Done!

My wife, Janet, and I walked the Wight for the first time on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

Our main points were:

We arrived at Newport bus station at 06:30. The bus left promptly but then stopped at Sandown Heights behind another bus for 15/20 minutes then they both drove off together…why?

We finally arrived at Bembridge at 07:30 and finally started at 07:40.

The rain started within the hour and didn’t stop until after Brighstone forest.

I agree with the comments about getting lost around Carisbrooke Castle, especially after leaving the check-in point. The route leading from the rear of the castle grounds was unclear and took a bit of time to work out.

I agree that the lack of toilets were a problem at various stops and the queues for them. , As soon as you stood still you became very cold.

Arrived in at Alum Bay, some 9 hours later, with a big smile and a great sense of achievement.

Well done to all the children who took part, they dealt with the rain and mud admirably. They were putting the adults to shame.

The weather did not put us off so you will see us again next year.

Thank you for walking and for your comments will take them back to the committee

I did the walk on the 13th and despite the weather i enjoyed it. It poured with rain, hailstoned and was the muddiest walk ever, my boots were full of water, i didn’t have a coat ans was freezing cold.despite the weather i enjoyed collecting sponsors, and would have been happy to pay £10 on the day aswell..after all its all for CHARITY and thats the important bit, isn’t it??

Walking the 27 miles for the EMH was a great cause!!! It was my first time and I suggest we just don’t talk about the weather anymore… ;-)

@EMH: Do you know how many people did the whole distance (roughly)???

EMH FUNDRAISING
We think we had 5100 as 4845 registered beore hand and 877 on the day difficult yo tell as we have some very soggy checkpoint slips!! We had 1800 leave Bembridge not sure at the moment how many finished yet!
Thank you to you for walking and being one of our top fundraisers on our Just Giving site

We did the full walk and despite the foul weather enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately I managed to faint on the bus home and I would like to say a big thank you to the bus driver,my wife and the passengers who helped me, and of course to St John’s Ambulance for taking care of me. Shaken but not stirred we will be back again next year.

Thank you for walking for us, hope you are feeling beter now see you next year 18th May 2008 we have ordered the sunshine!

came down from london had a great time didn;t even notice the rain

Absolutely awful weather conditions last Sunday but the spirit of the cause kept us all going. Many Thanks to all the people who helped organise the event throughout the year, especially the marshall who gave me a Mar’s Bar at the third checkpint (Must of thought I needed it !!).

Thanks again for a great event and cause. Long may it continue. Well done to my daughter Elle, who completed the children’s walk.

Yes it rained, yes it was windy but it was still a fantastic day, the true meaning of the day at the forefront of every walker. I am also extremely proud of my 10 year old daughter Alice, whom walked the 14 miles from Carisbrooke to Alum Bay for the first time and has raised almost £100!!!

Just a couple of observations;

I was pleased about the staggered start at Bembridge - it gave everyone a much easier start, rather than the ‘Le Mans’ start of previous years!

The marshalls were, as always, very good, and an inspitration to us all when the rain started and the wind blew, and I liked the use of traffic lights to control traffic/walkers at certain points.

However, I thought that, given the long-range weather forecast, there were limited facilities at Carisbrooke to get under cover to change clothing or take a rest/eat/drink. I would have appreciated a chance to change a lot of clothing at that point to continue on, as I was already soaked (as were many others), which may have made the second part a little more comfortable.

Thank you for your comments which we will pass on to our committee I’m sorry that it was not made clearer that the Priory was open for walkers

well done to everyone that walked the wight on sunday ! it was the first time i have done it …and it was hard work Thankyou to the marshall (mr david wright) for the kiss that kept me going from arreton to alum bay x i think we should all be very proud of ourselfs not only for walking such along distance in such bad conditions but for also raising alot of money for a very good charity .welldone to dad louise anna wendy jane sarah craig les mike leigh aaron harry andrew chole ellery sophie thomas and scampi .

Me and my friends did the walk for the first time on the 13th, and we found it really tough going due to the weather, but we did get through it and were really proud of ourselves when we crossed the finish line. I would just like to say to all the people who have complained about lack of facilities etc. to remember why we all took part, this is not being held by a rich organisation, but by a worthy charity, and what is one day of us being uncomfortable and putting ourselves out compared to the suffering of those in the hospice? I moaned on the day about ques for the toilet but you realise at the end of the day how insignificant these things really are. Well done to everyone who walked, me and my friends will be back next year!

EMH Fundraising
Dear Sarah thank you for your kind comments. The walk is run by a wonderful team of volunteers who have worked on the walk, some of them for the last 17 years. We are always trying to improve the event so we take on board the comments walkers make and try to iron them out for following year. But without you the walkers and the money you raise we would not be able to give the special care to our patients. See you on the 18th May next year.
